Justin Lin's own son came up with the idea for the magnet plane stunt in "F9: The Fast Saga" after being brought along to a production meeting by his director dad. According to Moritz, Corman was paid in Universal stock footage for the use of the title. Both tell stories about two-bit criminals on the run, and both end with someone begrudgingly handing over keys to those criminals to help them escape. "And there was a little section on a movie he'd made called 'The Fast and the Furious.' I thought, 'That's the title of this movie!'" Corman's film, released in 1954, is quite different from 2001's "The Fast and the Furious," but there are a lot of similarities. "I went to watch a documentary on Roger Corman, who I've known since I was a kid," Moritz said. Eventually, the right name came via a much older movie. "Redline" and "Street Wars" were also thrown around as possible titles. That list included "Racer X," the name of the Vibe article on which the film was loosely based, and "Race Wars," which is the name of the racing event the characters attend in the movie. Sentinel/Schwartzer fits better from side profile though.Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in 2021, longtime series producer Neal Moritz revealed that the first movie went through many potential names before the producers settled on the right one. Regina (matte green / woodie with roofrack/luggage) Virgo Classic Custom - not quite as good as I imagined. Peyote topless (light blue) - Wrong year by almost a decade, but still works better than Mariachi Tornado. Manana (newer model but kind of fits - opposite of issue using Peyote for Thelma and Louise T'Bird) Harley Davidson Hydraglide/Panhead custom chopperĪustin Powers: International Man of Mystery Harley Davidson Hydraglide/Panhead custom The Valkyrie's name directly references a scene in Apocalypse Now where Bell UH-1s are used in an attack with Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries playing throughtout. The Journey is very close to the Fleetwood Pace Arrow RV in The Trio. The Wastelander is heavily inspired by the Mongo truck from Fast Five. The Phantom Wedge is very similar to a semi-truck used in the Mythbusters finale. The Sanctus is very similar to the Hell Cycle from Ghost Rider. The Shotaro is very similar to the Light Cycles from the Tron franchise. The Rhapsody is named in reference to a scene in Wayne's World featuring Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and a customized AMC Pacer. The Franken Stange is very similar to the Munster Koach from The Munsters. The Deluxo is clearly inspired by the modified time machine DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future. The Ardent and Stromberg directly reference James Bond via their relation to Wet Nellie from The Spy Who Loved Me - the Ardent's description makes passing criticisms and the car is based on the car Wet Nellie is in the film, while the Stromberg features all the submersible modifications of the film car and its name is borrowed from the antagonist. As Duty Ziplock and above, the Ellie, Dukes, Gang Burrito, Vigilante, Ruiner 2000, and JB 700 are all direct references, through their names or default appearances. That said, there are some which are clearly film references. Furthermore, some of these can only be stored in special locations, so they won't fit with the single garage plan. It's best to research the in-game cars yourself to see if you find them fitting of your criteria. Plenty of cars can be modified at autoshops to reference films, but the cars themselves aren't. GTA obviously draws much of its influence from movies, so it's entirely possible all the cars in the game have some movie connections, but it's hard to say for many. With the nature of cars being so ubiquitous in human life at this point, it's kinda hard to say if cars in a game are inspired by films or not.
